Melanin & Our Origins

A K–2 social studies unit about the helper in our skin, the people we come from, and where the human story begins.

Young children notice skin color, and they are curious about it. This unit gives that curiosity a joyful, accurate home. Children learn that melanin gives skin its color, that Africa is part of the ancient human story we all share, and that every person has a unique story worth knowing. No shade is better or worse. Every shade belongs.
